This course is designed to train people to provide advanced level first aid in emergency situations.

Course Objectives

This three-day course covers the following topics:

  • Assess and manage the scene of an emergency situation.
  • Perform a primary survey to identify any life threats.
  • Perform a secondary survey.
  • Demonstrate and apply knowledge of safe patient moving and lifting techniques without injury to self, patient or others.
  • Demonstrate and apply knowledge of devices and/or techniques to manage patients in an emergency situation.
  • Monitor patients and provide information in an emergency situation.
  • Recognise signs of stress in self and apply appropriate strategies to mitigate effects.
  • Demonstrate and apply knowledge requirements relating to patient information and documenting events.
  • Assess and record patient vital signs and explain perfusion status in the emergency care first response context.
  • Gather current and relevant patient medical history in the emergency care first response context.

Entry Criteria

Candidates MUST complete an online course and assessment before attending the 3-day practical training.

The online course introduces candidates to the techniques and equipment that are used by first responders. How to use them effectively and confidently is taught during the practical training using scenario-based activities.

Candidates MUST also have a current Level 2 First Aid certificate, refreshed or completed in the last two years.
