Are there additional costs to get my endorsement printed on my licence?
Can I bring my own my own equipment to a course? E.g. a harness?
Yes, you can bring your own equipment along to the training course and our training team will give it a check over and ensure that it meets industry requirements prior to use.* Whilst this won’t be an ‘inspection’ as described by the standards and best practice, it will give you the confidence to know that it will work when you need it most.
VHNZ has a wide array of equipment from multiple manufacturers so you can try out new harnesses and devices that might make your life a little easier and safer out there in the workplace.
*We will require you to utilise our equipment on our rope access courses.
Can I get a refund if I cancel my booking?
If you have cancelled or postponed your booking outside of five business days you can request a refund.
If you paid by Credit Card VHNZ can refund to the same card. If you paid by bank deposit VHNZ can refund to the same bank account with proof of bank account – either a photo snip or deposit slip showing your company name and account number.
Course Refresher Information
At Vertical Horizonz NZ (VHNZ), certain certificates/unit standards are issued with a "recommended refresher date". Whereas some training events are required to be 'refreshed' by law, including Certificates of Competence in Forklift and First Aid, some training refreshers cannot be enforced but are strongly recommended by Industry, WorkSafe New Zealand, NZQA and most large worksite PCBU's.
Refresher training is training that refreshes the knowledge of the trainee periodically after the initial training has taken place. These refresher periods are used to confirm and enhance an individual's knowledge and update them on any changes within that field.
There is currently some confusion around expiry dates on unit standards issued by training providers. Because the refreshment or re-sitting of unit standards cannot be enforced unless it has been regulated under the Act. Expiry dates on certificates or qualification cards therefore deemed invalid. With this being said, the new Health and Safety at Work Act requires risk to be managed as far as what is reasonably practicable; refresher training is a clear measure that reduces risk, so whether industry best practice or not, employers should be following recommended refresher dates to ensure they are managing and reducing risk to their employees.
There are a number of VHNZ courses that require refreshers following initial completion. To view all courses with associated refreshers and their timelines, please click below:
Do I have to complete a full course if my certificate is past its recommended refresher date?
For First Aid you must complete the full course if your certificate is past the recommended refresher date.
For other courses the refresher date is recommended in line with industry best practice.
Do VHNZ provide any PPE if I don’t have my own?
What PPE you need to bring to your course depends on the course and whether you are attending at a VHNZ training centre or on a worksite. Once you’ve booked onto a course you will receive a course confirmation email that includes a list of what you need to bring.
If your training is at a VHNZ training centre VHNZ can provide all the necessary PPE required for the course

Who can receive the learner's certificate?
New Zealand law and NZQA rules require the recording of learner identification details and course completions on the learners NZQA Record of Achievement and the release of personal information Privacy Act 2020. As such it is the learner who must receive notification of course completion from VHNZ irrespective of who paid for the training.
VHNZ is aware that the above can be difficult for employer needing proof of learner qualifications for contract. We can inform the employer at the time of course completion but must have the permission of the learner.
