Our Account Managers and Client Liaisons are here to help you with any questions about VHNZ training. Please contact them on 0800 72 33 848 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
I can’t find the training I need on your website. Who should I speak to?
I’ve been told I need to do a refresher course. How do I book this?
You can search for a refresher course through our online booking system here.
In some regions refresher training is incorporated into longer courses which you only need to attend part of. If you cannot find a refresher specific course in your region, please contact our Client Liaisons on 0800 72 33 848 or email@example.com.
Do I have to complete a full course if my certificate is past its recommended refresher date?
For First Aid you must complete the full course if your certificate is past the recommended refresher date.
For other courses the refresher date is recommended in line with industry best practice.
What do I need to bring with me to my course?
What you need to bring to your course depends on the course and whether you are attending at a VHNZ training centre or on a worksite. Once you’ve booked onto a course you will receive a course confirmation email that includes a list what you need to bring. If you are yet to book a course but have questions, please contact our team on 0800 72 33 848 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Do VHNZ provide any PPE if I don’t have my own?
What PPE you need to bring to your course depends on the course and whether you are attending at a VHNZ training centre or on a worksite. Once you’ve booked onto a course you will receive a course confirmation email that includes a list of what you need to bring.
If your training is at a VHNZ training centre VHNZ can provide all the necessary PPE required for the course
Can I bring my own my own equipment to a course? E.g. a harness?
Yes, you can bring your own equipment along to the training course and our training team will give it a check over and ensure that it meets industry requirements prior to use.* Whilst this won’t be an ‘inspection’ as described by the standards and best practice, it will give you the confidence to know that it will work when you need it most.
VHNZ has a wide array of equipment from multiple manufacturers so you can try out new harnesses and devices that might make your life a little easier and safer out there in the workplace.
*We will require you to utilise our equipment on our rope access courses.
How do I cancel or change my course?
If you have a VHNZ verified booking account you can cancel your course via the “My Courses” tab in your account.
If you do not have a VHNZ verified booking account, please contact the team on 0800 72 33 848 or email@example.com who can help you cancel your course.
What are the booking cancellation/postponement terms?
You can find the cancellation terms in your course confirmation email.
Notification of cancellation or postponement of training must be made in writing. Or, if you have a verified booking account, you can log in and cancel bookings yourself.
Confirmed training cancelled or postponed by the client within five business days but more than two business days of the course commencement date, will be invoiced at 50% of the agreed course fee.
Training cancelled or postponed by the client within two business days of the course will be invoiced at the full quoted rate.
Can I get a refund if I cancel my booking?
If you have cancelled or postponed your booking outside of five business days you can request a refund.
If you paid by Credit Card VHNZ can refund to the same card. If you paid by bank deposit VHNZ can refund to the same bank account with proof of bank account – either a photo snip or deposit slip showing your company name and account number.
I moved my booking to another course and have received another invoice. Have I been charged twice?
When a booking is cancelled the invoice for that booking will be credited to your account and a new invoice is sent to you for the new booking. The credit will automatically be applied to your new booking.
If you have cancelled your booking outside of five business days, you can request a refund instead of a credit by contacting the VHNZ Accounts team on 0800 72 33 848 or firstname.lastname@example.org.

How do I get an ID card?
The VHNZ App has replaced ID cards. You can download the App by searching ‘Vertical Horizonz’ on Google Play and Apple App stores.

- Full name
- Date of birth
- Postal address
- Course type
- Course (PAR) number
Your card will then be sent to you via mail.
What does the VHNZ App do and how do I download it?
Once you have downloaded the VHNZ App and created an account, the App will alert you when you have achieved a certification and when your renewals are due. It is the perfect way to keep a record of your qualifications and allows you to quickly reference your achieved unit standards when working on site.
You can download the App by searching ‘Vertical Horizonz’ on Google Play and Apple App stores.
Who can receive the learner's certificate?
New Zealand law and NZQA rules require the recording of learner identification details and course completions on the learners NZQA Record of Achievement and the release of personal information Privacy Act 2020. As such it is the learner who must receive notification of course completion from VHNZ irrespective of who paid for the training.
VHNZ is aware that the above can be difficult for employer needing proof of learner qualifications for contract. We can inform the employer at the time of course completion but must have the permission of the learner.
What is a Refresher Course?
At Vertical Horizonz NZ (VHNZ), certain certificates/unit standards are issued with a "recommended refresher date". Whereas some training events are required to be 'refreshed' by law, including Certificates of Competence in Forklift and First Aid, some training refreshers cannot be enforced but are strongly recommended by Industry, WorkSafe New Zealand, NZQA and most large worksite PCBU's.
Refresher training is training that refreshes the knowledge of the trainee periodically after the initial training has taken place. These refresher periods are used to confirm and enhance an individual's knowledge and update them on any changes within that field.
There is currently some confusion around expiry dates on unit standards issued by training providers. Because the refreshment or resitting of unit standards cannot be enforced unless it has been regulated under the Act. Expiry dates on certificates or qualification cards therefore deemed invalid. With this being said, the new Health and Safety at Work Act requires risk to be managed as far as what is reasonably practicable; refresher training is a clear measure that reduces risk, so whether industry best practice or not, employers should be following recommended refresher dates to ensure they are managing and reducing risk to their employees.
