Purpose

The purpose of this qualification is to give people already within the scaffolding sector the skills, knowledge, and experience to effectively lead, plan, design, erect, and dismantle complex scaffolding at an advanced level.

Course Objectives

1. Apply design principles in the design of scaffolding and manage the handling of advanced scaffolding components as specified in the Health and Safety Regulations competence endorsements; and non-proprietary suspended scaffolding.

2. Design, erect and dismantle multi-faceted and complex scaffolding as specified in the Health and Safety Regulations competence endorsements; non-proprietary suspended scaffolding.

3. Provide site-wide leadership for scaffolding, including the supervision of staff on medium to large projects.

Entry Requirements

  • Be over 16 years of age.
  • Be in employment in New Zealand and engaging with work related to the scope of the programme. The employer and applicant, in conjunction with VHNZ, must complete a training agreement.
  • Be physically fit and able to demonstrate physical competency for the skills being trained.
  • This programme is funded by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC). Trainees must be New Zealand or Australian Citizens or Residents.
  • You will need to hold a New Zealand Certificate in Scaffolding (Level 4) (Trade) or National Certificate in Scaffolding (Level 4) (Intermediate) to enter this programme.
  • Must hold a valid current first aid certificate

Pathways

EMPLOYMENT PATHWAY

Graduates of this qualification, once they have been issued with the Scaffolding Certificate of Competence (Elementary and Intermediate), may be employed in roles such as scaffolders and leading hand scaffolders in the commercial and residential construction, event, and industrial sectors.

Delivery is via a mixture of face-to-face learning on and off the job combined with extensive on-job learning, some e-learning may also be included.
