Purpose

The aim of this course is to enable a trainee to demonstrate knowledge of working at heights on electrical network structures in the electricity supply environment.

Course Objectives

At the successful completion of the course the trainee will be able to:

  • Carry out pre-climbing safety checks on electricity network structures.
  • Select electricity network structure climbing equipment.
  • Use electricity network structure climbing equipment.
  • Carry out work on electricity network structures.
  • Describe procedures for rescue from an electrical structure.
  • Carry out rescue of a victim from an electrical structure.
  • Report rescue from electrical structure.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of ropes, slings, and knots used in the electricity supply environment.
  • Identify, describe, and explain the use of light lifting and rigging equipment used in the electricity supply environment.
  • Prepare to, and operate, light lifting and rigging equipment used in the electricity supply environment.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of documentation and standards for lifting and rigging equipment.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the hazards associated with wearing a safety harness and associated equipment.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of safety harnesses and associated systems and equipment.
  • Check and fit a safety harness.
  • Use a safety harness where a fall hazard exists at height.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the rescue plan to be activated in the event of a fall.
  • Basic understanding of ECP34 and SMEI.

Entry Criteria

The course requires a level of fitness to demonstrate competency for the skill being trained.

Pre-Requisites

10509:
US 10507 - Use personal
protection equipment within an electricity supply environment

17025:
US 10509 - Climb and work on electricity network structures
US 6401 - Provide first aid
US 6402 - Provide basic life support

Note

The course is in alignment with the Chorus WTC3 requirements.
