Purpose

The NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management aims to build on the success of the International General Certificate.

The fire certificate has been designed for managers, supervisors, employee representatives and those embarking on a role with fire safety responsibility. It aims to equip holders to contribute to the conduct and review of fire risk assessments and fire preventive and protective measures within most workplaces.

NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management is offered by VHNZ in association with SHEilds Ltd, accredited NEBOSH Centre 548.

Course Outline

The NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety course is split into two units of study delivered via e-learning, each of which is assessed separately. The course is delivered as follows:

UNIT FSC1: FIRE SAFETY

*Assessed by an at home open book examination - Trainees have 24 hours to complete (Exam should take 4-5 hours)

  • Why we should manage workplace health and safety
  • How health and safety management systems work and what they look like
  • Managing risks – understanding people and processes
  • Health and safety monitoring and measuring

UNIT FSC2: FIRE RISK MANAGEMENT

*Assessed by a practical assessment IG2 - Three hours arranged by SHEilds

  • Managing fire safety
  • Principles of fire and explosion
  • Causes and prevention of fire and explosions
  • Fire protection in buildings
  • Safety of people in the event of a fire
  • Fire safety risk assessments

Assessment

Assessment will consist of an open book written assessments of five hours, plus a practical assessment of three hours.

Examinations are available every 2 months. (Theses run: February, Apri, June, August, October, and December). This will be managed by SHEilds.

Assessments are offered and must be completed in English. A short report is required and must be completed in English.

Due to the demands of learning online, a high level of literacy is expected of learners on this course.

Trainees will be required to pay SHEilds an additional NEBOSH examination fee of £170.

RECOMMENDED STUDY TIME

40 - 60 hours, with an estimated average completion time of 3 - 6 months.
