Info

Purpose

The aim of this course is to produce a telehandler operator that will have the knowledge, skills and attributes for all essential areas of the units of competency covered in the telehandler course undertaken, enabling the individual to operate the telehandler effectively and safely. The trainee will also be able to demonstrate the appropriate responsibilities of a telehandler operator with emphasis on accident prevention and operator responsibility.

Course Objectives

Theory and practical lessons will include the following:

  • Hazard controls are described in accordance with company requirements.
  • Telehandler and attachment are checked and prepared before use.
  • Operate a telehandler.
  • Carry out post-operational procedures.

The trainees will undergo formal in-class training in association with unit standard 23637 prior to being assessed. This will be followed by the practical aspects of operating a telehandler. The practical assessments should take approximately 15 minutes per trainee.

Pre-Requisite

Drivers must hold a current full driver licence appropriate to the weight range of the telehandler Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) driven, including a current licence endorsement for on road use i.e. A W Endorsement will be required for the telehandler.

VHNZ can include the W Endorsement in the one day course.

Special Note

To complete this unit standard, evidence is required of a minimum of 20 verified hours using a telehandler. These hours may be completed before or after the course.
