The aim of this course is to produce an operator that can demonstrate the knowledge, skills and attributes for Four Wheel Drive (4WD) driving in an off-road environment.
This course enables the individual to drive a 4WD effectively and safely over varied terrain as would be required in most off-road workplaces.
The learner will also be able to demonstrate the appropriate responsibilities of a driver of a 4WD with emphasis on accident prevention.
Land made available for practical 4WD course requires gentle rolling land and a water crossing for the following:
- Hill Ascents.
- Hill Descents.
- Traversing hill.
- Hill Fail.
- Water crossings (note no more than 0.5m in depth).
Learners must:
- Hold a minimum of a New Zealand Class 1 restricted driver’s
licence. - Have access to a light 4WD vehicle (described below) and suitable
roads. - Be physically fit and able to demonstrate physical competency for
the skill being trained.
NOTE: This course requires the use of a light 4WD vehicle (any four wheel vehicle with a gross laden weight less than 3500kg and capable of having motive power applied simultaneously to all four wheels.
Additional charges may apply if a vehicle must be hired.
