The purpose of this course is to develop your understanding of factors that can damage hearing and ways to protect hearing in the workplace.
On completion of this e-learning course trainees will be able to demonstrate knowledge of:
- The mechanism of hearing, and the causes of impairment.
- How sound intensity is measured, the hearing comfort zone, and the effects of noise on the hearing mechanism.
- Types of, and the benefits of using, hearing protection equipment.
- Workplace hearing protection programme requirements.

Completion of this Unit Standard provides credits toward the VHNZ New Zealand Certificate in Workplace Health and Safety (Level 3).
