PURPOSE

The purpose of this course is to equip learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to plan and carry out specialist rescues in confined spaces. 

COURSE OBJECTIVES

At successful completion of the course, the learner will be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the requirements for safe working practices in confined spaces. 
  • Select and operate equipment for rescues from confined spaces. 
  • Carry out specialised rescues in confined spaces
  • Recommission confined space equipment and complete reports. 
PRE-REQUISITES

Learners must hold the following unit standards or be able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills:

  • NZQA Unit Standard 3272 – Wear and operate breathing apparatus in general emergencies.
  • NZQA Unit Standards 6401: Provide First Aid and 6402: Provide basic life support. Current (within two years) First Aid certification.

This course also requires a level of fitness to demonstrate competency for the skill being trained.
