In the world of working at height safety training, the name Vertical Horizonz is ingrained within the history of the establishment of New Zealand safety standards. Founded in 1998 by Bruce Mazengarb, Vertical Horizonz has been a beacon of excellence in safety training for over 26 years. After a distinguished career in the armed forces, Bruce embarked on a mission to transform New Zealand’s approach to working at height safety, playing an impactful role in developing the industry to what it is today.
Driven by a commitment to improve workplace safety to the standards he had known in the armed forces, Bruce established Vertical Horizonz when he recognised the lack of safety measures nationwide. Determined to make a difference, he immersed himself in the development of safety training, collaborating with committees and government agencies to create unit standards that have remained industry benchmarks to this day. Bruce's efforts ensured the standardisation of safety practices across various sectors of the New Zealand workforce. His dedication laid the foundation for Vertical Horizonz’ rise to leadership in working at height safety training.
One of Bruce's key achievements was his role in the establishment of the Industrial Rope Access Association of New Zealand. Through his advocacy for stringent safety measures and best practice, he helped establish an advisory body that regulates and develops the rope access industry in New Zealand while promoting a national approach to rope access standards development.
