Two New Training Centre Locations

VHNZ has expanded its nationwide network of training facilities with the opening of two new centres in Nelson and Whakatāne. The opening of these new locations underscores VHNZ's commitment to delivering REAL TRAINING THAT SAVES LIVES across the country.

Nelson Training Centre Opening

The opening day of the Nelson Training Centre was a celebration of the region's community spirit and the importance of skills development. The day commenced with a blessing ceremony attended by VHNZ staff, representatives of the local Iwi and members of the community.

From early morning, the atmosphere transitioned into a lively social gathering, with a delectable barbecue serving egg and bacon sandwiches, complemented by a local coffee cart offering fresh brews. This provided an excellent opportunity for neighbours, course attendees, and clients – both new and existing – to mingle, enjoy refreshments, and tour the facility.

As the day progressed, visitors continued to arrive, engaging with the VHNZ team and gaining insights into the new training centre's offerings. A notable highlight was a meeting hosted by Glen, where he presented a comprehensive overview of VHNZ's successful programmes and funding initiatives already established in the North Island, illustrating the potential benefits and support available through the new Nelson centre.

Whakatāne Training Centre Opening

The Whakatāne community warmly welcomed the new VHNZ training centre with a vibrant celebration. The opening day commenced with a blessing and featured engaging demonstrations showcasing the centre's capabilities and course offerings.

Attended by VHNZ trainers, management, esteemed guests, and the founder Bruce, the ceremony included a significant ribbon-cutting event, symbolising the start of a new chapter in health and safety training for the Whakatāne region. The event was well-supported by the local community, including a strong presence from the Whakatohea and Ngati Awa Iwi, who played a crucial role in the proceedings.

A highlight of the day was the presentation of a special taonga (cultural treasure) to the facility by Willie Apiata VC, adding profound cultural significance to the occasion. The day also recognised the extraordinary efforts of the McCorkindale and Shepherd families, whose hard work was instrumental in transforming the facility. Thanks were extended to the VHNZ staff from Rotorua, Tauranga, Hamilton, and Whakatāne for their hospitality and the provision of delicious hot food on what turned out to be a cold, wet day.

VHNZ extends heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated in these momentous events and contributed to their success. The opening of these centres marks an exciting expansion of VHNZ's mission to enhance safety training nationwide.
