She’ll be right? Not when it comes to heavy lifting… Save your back. Use a forklift

In true Kiwi fashion, we are a nation of hard workers. We like to get stuck in, roll up our sleeves, and get the job done. But sometimes that “she’ll be right” attitude comes at a cost, especially when it comes to lifting heavy loads.

How many times have you heard someone say, “It’s only a few boxes, I’ll be fine”? Fast forward a few years, and those quick lifts can turn into long-term back injuries. That is where forklifts and proper training come in.

A Job Too Big for Muscle Alone

On the worksite, at the farm, or down at the yard, it is tempting to think you can save time by lifting something yourself. But the truth is, our backs are not designed for repeated heavy lifting. One wrong twist, and you are off work for weeks, or worse, dealing with pain for life.

Forklifts take the strain so people do not have to. One trained operator can shift tonnes of material in minutes, safely and efficiently. What would take a team of people hours, a forklift can do in the blink of an eye.

More Than Just a Warehouse Tool

It is not just warehouses that rely on forklifts. Across New Zealand you will find them:

  • On farms, moving pallets of feed or crates of produce.
  • In ports, unloading containers stacked sky-high.
  • On construction sites, shifting timber, steel, and blocks.
  • In retail, stocking shelves and keeping supply chains moving.

Wherever something heavy needs moving, chances are a forklift has done the mahi.

Do Not Risk It, Train for It

Here is the thing. Forklifts are not just about convenience, they are about protecting people. Every time a forklift does the heavy lifting, it is one less chance for someone to wreck their back trying to do it themselves.

But like any powerful machine, forklifts need respect. They are not just oversized trolleys, they require skill and awareness to operate safely. That is why proper training is non-negotiable. At Vertical Horizonz, we train operators to do the job right, keeping themselves, their mates, and their worksites safe.

The Real Kiwi Heroes

So next time you are tempted to pick something up because “it will be fine,” think about the long game. Your back will thank you. And remember, the real Kiwi heroes are not the ones risking injury to prove a point. They are the ones who use the right tools, get the right training, and keep the whole crew moving.
