At Vertical Horizonz New Zealand (VHNZ), we know apprenticeships move quickly. Most learners balance time on site, block courses, the demands of everyday work, and a personal life. In the middle of that, questions often appear at the least convenient moments. An assessment might not make sense, a task might feel unclear, or an apprentice may simply want to check they are progressing as expected.
Our Training Advisors already support apprentices through regular visits and block courses. Even with that structure, there are times when a learner needs guidance sooner. Waiting weeks for the next visit can feel frustrating, especially when a quick conversation could solve the problem.
We recognised that gap and looked for a way to make support easier to access. The result is a new option for apprentices. Apprentice Drop-In Sessions offer short, bookable one-to-one meetings with Training Advisors. The sessions give learners a simple way to ask questions, talk through challenges, or check their progress.
Drop-in sessions sit alongside the existing apprenticeship structure. They do not replace Training Advisor visits or block courses. Instead, they give apprentices another touchpoint between those key moments. Early conversations often prevent bigger issues later. When apprentices have an easy way to ask for help, small concerns are resolved quickly and momentum continues.
The sessions are designed to fit around the realities of site work and busy schedules. Apprentices can choose between online and in-person options, depending on what works best for them.
Online sessions run through Microsoft Teams. Apprentices simply book a 30 minute slot and meet their Training Advisor one-on-one. Because the session is virtual, learners can join from wherever they are. A quick check-in can happen during a break on site or at the end of the day without the need for travel.
For those who prefer face-to-face support, in-centre drop-in sessions are also available. These take place at local VHNZ training centres and offer a relaxed environment to talk things through in person. Some apprentices find it helpful to walk through questions together, particularly when discussing assessments or planning the next stage of training.
At the centre of the initiative is a simple principle. Apprentices succeed when they feel supported. Access to guidance should not depend on waiting for the next scheduled visit or course. It should be available when learners need it.
By introducing drop-in sessions, we are giving apprentices another way to stay connected with their Training Advisors, resolve questions early, and continue moving forward with confidence throughout their apprenticeship. Book online now!
