Apprentice of the Month - March

We’re delighted to announce that roofing apprentice Liam Barber of Watertight Roofing Ltd, Hamilton, is our latest Apprentice of the Month!

Liam was caught off guard on-site by our training advisor, Adan Te Huia, who delivered the good news (and, we assume, the classic “wait, what?” reaction).

Currently working towards his Level 4 National Certificate in Roofing, Liam is proving to be a real asset to the trade. He keeps on top of his studies, isn’t afraid to ask questions, and always puts in the hard graft to improve his skills.

Liam has some big aspirations—he’s aiming to become 2IC (Second in Charge) and, eventually, step off the tools and into leadership. But for now, he’s loving the hands-on work and everything that comes with it.

When asked what he enjoys most about roofing, Liam said:
“So much work goes into it, and when it’s done, you can really appreciate the hours and effort. I love the detail, the clean and tidy work. Mostly, I enjoy the outcome and the people I meet and work with. Roofing teaches patience, and I take a lot away from the job that applies to my daily life. Plus, I get a ton of vitamin D being out in the sun—there’s heaps to it!”

Outside of work, Liam stays active by skating and getting outdoors with his mates. He’s also a top bloke when it comes to family, making sure to be there for his dad, who’s recovering from an injury.

Liam values the stability and support he gets from his employer, Watertight Roofing Ltd, and reckons the apprenticeship programme is a breeze if you put in the effort: “Nothing’s too hard as long as you apply yourself to the study. Everyone’s easy to get along with, which makes learning enjoyable.”

Liam's employer also had some positive words to share in response to his award: "At Watertight Roofing, we were thrilled to hear of Liam’s recognition as Roofing Apprentice of the Month! As Liam’s employer, we’ve had the privilege of watching him grow into a skilled and valued member of our team. Liam has consistently shown a strong dedication to mastering the trade and developing the skills needed to excel in roofing. His eagerness to learn and his willingness to ask questions demonstrate his commitment to both personal and professional growth. Alongside his positive attitude, Liam’s collaborative spirit makes him an invaluable asset to our crew. We’re excited to see where his hard work will take him in the future!"

Congrats Liam —keep smashing it!
