We’re delighted to announce that roofing apprentice Callum Shutes of Dixon Roofing in Auckland is our latest Apprentice of the Month!
Nominated by his Training Advisor, Conor, Callum has shown awesome resilience and commitment. He was originally scheduled to finish earlier this year, but after a few unexpected setbacks—many outside his control—it looked like his completion might be delayed into next year. Instead, he stayed focused, put in the work, and is now back on track to finish by the end of this year.
Callum says the most rewarding part has been gaining confidence in his work and backing himself on the job. He tackles challenges head-on—usually by diving in and working it out before asking for help.
How does he stay motivated?
“Having a passion—I really enjoy roofing and seeing the finished product. My brothers recently qualified too, so there’s a bit of competition between us.”
He’s proud of the tidy finish in his flashing work and how far he’s come in communicating with clients.
Big shout out to his employer, Karl, for backing him with the tools, time, and solid advice to help him understand not just what to do—but why it matters.
Keep smashing it Callum!
