Last week in chilly Waiouru, we held the second module of Mana Whakatipu. This is a Maori Leadership program, also known as the New Zealand Certificate in Business (Team Leadership) Level 3. This course is aimed at new or prospective team leaders. Mahia from Connexis has filled us in on how it all went....
"Although it is units based for the NZ Certificate, VHNZ’s trainers Frances, Wayne and Dave are talented at being able to draw knowledge from the trainees. This is done in a practical sense which suits Maori learning more so than Lecturing or reading pages of notes.
The trainees and Managers of both Fulton Hogan and Complete Siteworks have noticed a huge improvement in confidence of their people on returning from Module 1 in Waiouru.
The team are now back in for their 2nd and last Module. They have spent the full time together living and training at the Marae. This promotes strong team bonding, which then transfers to great networking when the group return back to their normal work.
They have also experienced all sorts of Military Leadership styles by being located at the Waiouru Military base. Spending this time among the soldiers is both exciting and entertaining, a real change of pace to the norm for them.
It's very cool – something they would never get to experience again in their lives. Civilians getting access to a Military base is usually unheard of unless they are working in there, plus all of natures beauty and living together on the Marae – Amazing"
